We’re nestled in a cozy, three-story house built in the early 1900s, which adds to the charm and intimacy of our salon. Located right next to the train tracks—hence our name, The Hair Station—you’ll experience a unique blend of vintage charm and modern convenience. When you arrive, you’ll come through our "back door" and step right into our greeting area, where one of our team members will give you a warm welcome. You’ll also find some of our favorite hair care products and a few other goodies for sale here.
On the first floor, we have four styling stations, a shampoo area, and a comfy waiting room where you can grab a drink or snack while you wait. Upstairs, we have our color room, breakroom, and four more stations, along with another shampoo area. And don't worry if stairs aren’t your thing—just let us know! We keep a station open downstairs specifically for guests who prefer to stay on the first floor.
What makes our space special is the way it feels—intimate and personal, with no more than two stylists in a room at a time. It gives us a chance to really connect with you and make sure your experience is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. So come in, relax, and let us take care of you!
In 1984, Mary Lewis and Debbie Marc, a dynamic mother-daughter duo, embarked on a mission to make Elkridge and its surrounding areas more beautiful, one head at a time. Starting with just a couple of rooms upstairs in our current building, while the downstairs housed various businesses like a baseball card shop and even a doctor’s office, they gradually expanded to occupy the entire building. Their dedication and strong ties to the community laid the foundation for our salon’s success.
While Mary and Debbie were building their dream, I was growing up in a small neighborhood right down route 1 in Elkridge. In 2003, I graduated from Long Reach High School in Howard County, Maryland without a clear career path. After a brief stint at Howard Community College, and failing accounting miserably, I found my true passion in the salon atmosphere, inspired by my love for the beauty industry and my Aunt Connie, who was my hairdresser as a kid. I decided to attend beauty school and graduated from The Fila Academy, a Paul Mitchell Partner School, in 2005, with a barber license, starting my journey in the hair industry.I gained valuable experience working at Hair Cuttery, Ulta Beauty, and a small family-run salon and spa, exploring different compensation models from commission to booth rent. These diverse experiences eventually led me to find my salon home here through a Craigslist ad, shaping me into the leader I am today.
Over the years, I've been fortunate to develop a loyal following and meet amazing people who have supported me personally and professionally. In 2017, I met my biggest supporter, Christopher Genson, who encouraged me to take the leap into salon ownership. In November 2019, Debbie passed the torch to Chris and me, and we’ve been on an incredible journey ever since.
I’m passionate about nurturing a new generation of stylists and fostering lasting relationships with our clients. I'm excited about the future and grateful to have you along for the ride.
Throwback to Our Halloween Takeover! 🎃
Halloween 2019 was no ordinary day—it was the day before we officially took over the salon! If you know us, you know we love a good costume moment, and we’re all about hyping up the spooky season. Of course, we couldn’t wait to see what Debbie had up her sleeve—she’s known for going all out and always bringing the laughs. She’d been teasing her costume all week, so our expectations were sky-high... and she totally delivered!
