National Alliance on Mental Illness
Did you know that hairdressers often face high levels of stress and mental health challenges? A study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found that hairdressers are at a higher risk of experiencing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression compared to workers in other industries. That's why we're dedicated to raising funds and participating in a walk to support NAMI's mission.

This year marks a period of significant change across the country and in our local community. We're eager to make our contribution, which is why we're raising funds for NAMI's life-changing programs and building awareness for mental health.
NAMI, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. NAMIWalks serves to promote awareness of mental health, raise funds for NAMI's free, top-rated programs, and foster a sense of community by reminding people they are not alone.

The Red Devils
Each year, nearly 200,000 individuals in America receive the life-altering diagnosis of breast cancer, with over 5,000 families in Maryland facing this challenge annually. Established in 2002, The Red Devils is a Baltimore-based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to funding services that enhance the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families.
Since its inception, The Red Devils has invested nearly $5 million to support treatment services for nearly 10,000 families affected by breast cancer. Through partnerships with 31 hospitals and facilities across Maryland, they provide crucial support services to patients living or receiving treatment in the state. Medical professionals and social workers refer patients to their trusted business partners, who offer various treatment support services at no cost.
Their Services:
The Red Devils focus on three key program areas aimed at addressing common barriers faced by breast cancer patients during treatment:
- Treatment Transportation: Providing assistance with transportation needs such as taxi vouchers, gasoline cards, bridge tolls, metro passes, parking, and sedan/van services.
- Family Support: Offering aid with meal and grocery expenses, house cleaning services, utility bills, rent/mortgage assistance, and childcare/respite care services.
- Medical Services and Treatment-Related Therapies: Covering expenses for chemotherapy and radiation treatments, medical co-payments and insurance premiums, examinations, acupuncture and massage therapy, and providing medical equipment and prostheses.
During the month of October, The Hair Station proudly supports The Red Devils by raising funds for this esteemed organization. As a salon deeply affected by the impact of cancer, particularly with the loss of salon owner Megan's mother, Kimberly Ford to cancer in 2009 at the age of 48, we understand the importance of supporting causes that help families through such challenging times.
